Beyond simple kinship and identification: aDNA analyses from a 17th-19th century crypt in Germany

چکیده
Ancient DNA (aDNA) analysis is a powerful tool in multidisciplinary research on human remains, potentially leading to kinship scenarios and historical identifications. In this study, we present genetic investigation of three noble families from the 17th 19th centuries AD entombed burial crypts at cloister church Riesa (Germany). Tests were aimed identifying anticipated incidental relationships our sample implications thereof for assumed identity deceased. A total 17 individuals investigated via morphological, radiographic aDNA analysis, yielding complete partial autosomal Y-STR profiles reliable mtDNA sequences. Biostatistics lineage markers revealed presence first third degree within cohort. The pedigrees Hanisch/von Odeleben von Welck thereby successfully reproduced, while four previously unknown could be linked Felgenhauer family. However, limitations biostatistical became evident when scenario went beyond simple relationships. combined with archaeological data records resulted (almost) unambiguous identification 14 individuals.

متن کاملChronicle of Datura Toxicity in the 18th and 19th Century
Background: Datura stramonium is a poisonous and common flowering plant that is a member of the Solanacae family. Datura poisonings are a rare occurrence in the 21st century, making toxicological information on this plant sparse. Historical information on Datura provides useful information on the clinical symptoms and characteristics of poisonings. This review looks at the state of knowledge on...

Only after many decades was the impact blurred by the action of other external influences, change occurring from within, and a growing sense of nation...
متن کاملChallenges of phylogenetic analyses of aDNA sequences.
One of the crucial steps of authentication of aDNA sequences is phylogenetic consistency. Amplified sequences should fit into the phylogenetic framework of their supposed origin. An inherent property of aDNA sequences however, is their short sequence length. Additionally, genes for aDNA studies are often chosen by their preservation potential rather than by phylogenetically informative content....

Coulomb, Carl Friedrich Gauss, André Marie Ampère, and Michael Faraday discovered the four experimental laws concerning electricity and magnetism, James Clerk Maxwell added the displacement current and thereby created the great set of Maxwell’s equations. That view is not entirely wrong, but it obscures the subtle interplay between sophisticated geometrical and physical intuitions that led not ...
